El Calafate │ Perito Moreno │ Upsala │ El Chalten │ El Calafate
Welcome to El Calafate! You are welcomed at the airport and taken to your hotel. You have the rest of the day free to spend as you please. We recommend exploring the small city of El Calafate at the edge of the Lake Lago Argentino.
The highlight of Patagonia is waiting for you: the Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world and was named a world natural heritage site by UNESCO. In addition to a small walk on the boardwalks of Lake Lago Argentino you also go on a boat trip along the southern bank of the lake through the glacial passage in order to get very close to the ice wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
In the morning you go to the harbour and board a ship to sail through icebergs with views of the Upsala glacier to the Estancia Cristina. There you visit the Museum of Folklore of the estancia before starting a cross-country drive to the conservation area “Hielos Continentales”. You take a short hike over glacial underground in order to get a breath taking view of Lake Guillermo, the Andes Mountains, and the biggest glacial field of Patagonia.
You leave El Calafate and drive to the small town of El Chalten. This town is located at the foot of the Fitz Roy ridge, a dream-destination for any mountaineer and trekking fan from any part of the world. The rest of the day is at your disposal. We recommend using the afternoon for a first exploration of the unique surroundings. For example, you can hike to the Mirador del Torreor or Mirador de los Cóndores, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views.
This day is open to allow for longer hikes in the surrounding area, for example to Fitz Roy.
Today you experience another trip highlight! In the morning you drive to the harbour of Bahía Túnel and board the ship to start a beautiful panoramic ride to the Viedma Glacier. There you dock and with crampons (so you don’t slip!) and a specialized guide you explore the different ice formations and ice caves. In the afternoon you go back to El Chalten.
You drive back to El Calafate and take a flight to your next travel destination.
