Buenos Aires │ Puerto Madryn │ The Valdes Peninsula │ Usuhaia │ El Calafate │ Perito Moreno │ Iguazu
Welcome to Buenos Aires. Upon your arrival at the airport your guide welcomes you and brings you to your hotel. Afterward you explore the most important points of interest and city districts of Buenos Aires together with your guide – by foot and by public transportation.
This day is at your disposal. In one of the most exciting cities of South America, you can always discover something new. We can help you with different tours or you can use the time to stroll around the different city districts of Buenos Aires on your own.
In the early morning you take a flight to Trelew where the Valdés peninsula airport is located. You drive to the nature protection area Punta Tombo where you can see the biggest colony of penguins out of Antarctica. In the afternoon you drive back to Puerto Madryn which is the starting point for various excursions to the Valdés peninsula.
On your excursion to the UNESCO world natural heritage site you get to see the best viewpoints like the bird island and the sea lion colony of Puerto Pirámides where you can also take part in a whale watching tour. You also visit the coastal station with sea elephants in Punta Delgada, Caleta Valdes and Punta Cantor and in the end you see the lighthouse Punta Norte where, with a bit of luck, you’ll get the chance to spot some orcas.
Today you fly to Ushuaia where you have some time to explore the “city at the end of the world”. We recommend to visit the end of the world museum: the old prison that was constructed in the beginning of the 19th century is a crucial part of Ushuaia´s history.
Today you can do a full day excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park which you can explore on several small hikes. The starting point for this trip is the idyllic Lapataia bay. In the forest and lagoon areas with a bit of luck you can see big beaver dams with their inhabitants. Passing cliffs, glaciers, big turf moors and characteristic Tierra del Fuego forests, you reach the black lagoon “Laguna Grande”.
Today´s excursion brings you to the well-known Beagle Channel. By boat you can spot the diverse fauna of the region and pass by the lighthouse Les Eclaireurs which is well known from postcards. Next stop: the bird island that is inhabited by different species of cormorants. Finally you land on Bridges Island before navigating back to Ushuaia. In the afternoon you fly to El Calafate.
The Los Glaciares National Park is located 80km/50mi from El Calafate and there you get to see the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. It is one of the few glaciers still growing in the Andes Mountains and from different viewpoints along the board walks you can see with a bit of luck the calving of the glacier. Afterward you go on a 1 hour boat trip all the way to Perito Moreno’s ice wall.
Today you go on a half day excursion to the Estancia Nibepo Aike which lies 60km/37mi outside of El Calafate. The Estancia (farm) was founded in 1901 and is located between the beautiful Lake Lago Roca and the mountains of the National Park. You go on a small hike into the surroundings of the farm where you get to know the southern part of the Lake Lago Argentino and afterwards you learn about sheep shearing and the processing of the wool. This interesting excursion gives you fascinating insights into the rural life of the Patagonian inhabitants and ends with a delicious meal.
Today you fly to Iguazu where one of the most fascinating natural spectacles is located – the Iguazu Falls. Once you arrive at the hotel you have free time for the rest of the day to save some energy for the upcoming excursions.
Today you will do an excursion to the Brazilian side of the Iguayu Falls. Given that you have to cross the border to Brazil, please don´t forget you passport! At the semicircle-shaped gorge “Garganta del Diablo” you can walk over several board walks, totalling about 1.1km/0.68mi in length, through the whole park and which guarantee great views of the waterfalls.
Today you experience the Iguazu falls from the Argentinian side. On the upper-path (circuito superior) along the upper brim of the waterfalls you can enjoy the panorama from several viewing platforms. On the lower-path (circuito inferior) you get closer to the swooshing waterfalls and the river bed. Afterward you get even closer to the waterfalls and get to feel the spray of the falls by boat.
Today you fly from Iguazu to Salta where you explore the pretty colonial center of the city with its beautiful buildings. A highlight of the tour is the preparation of traditional Argentinian empanadas which, of course, you get to taste in the end together with a nice glass of wine.
Today you drive to Purmamarca where you can see the famous “Cerro de los siete colores” hills. You follow the train rails of the famous “tren a las nubes” all the way to the “Quebrada del Toro” where you cross in order to get to Santa Rosa de Tastil. Your ride continues through the Puna and you visit the “Salinas Grandes”, a big salt lake. Once you arrive in Purmamarca, the rest of the day is at your disposal. You can explore the town on your own or do a small hike to the colourful mountains.
In the morning you start your trip first to Tilcara and then continue the ride along the colourful mountain valley. The valley of Purmamarca is not only interesting because of its different shapes and colors, but also for the many small towns where old indigenous traditions and religious rituals are still alive. In Humahuaca you visit the well-preserved colonial center before driving back to Salta.
Today´s drive from Salta to Cachi leads through very conflicting landscapes: from green mountain rainforests to the dry Puna with hardly any vegetation. You get to know the “Valle Encantado” and drive through the Los Cardones National Park. At the end you get to visit the small mountain town of Cachi where you can enjoy the view of the snow-capped Nevado de Cachi with an altitude of 6,380m/20,931ft.
From Cachi you drive to the small town Molinos which is famous for its colonial Cusco-style churches and go on to one of the highest wine-growing districts of the world in the surroundings of Cafayate. On this ride you will cross the “Quebrada de las Flechas” and San Carlos valleys, among others. At night you can enjoy dinner and wine at one of the vineyards.
In Cafayate you do a small city tour and visit some local vineyards. After lunch you drive back to Salta by crossing the valley “Quebrada de las Conchas” and seeing surprisingly green oases along the river of the same name. In the late afternoon you are back in Salta.
Today you leave the picturesque region of north Argentina by flying back to Buenos Aires. The rest of the day is at your disposal so that you have enough time to buy some last souvenirs.
Today you say goodbye and leave Argentina. We hope you had a great trip!
